Physical Description
Leigh is very short and slender, with a light bone structure and the beginnings of good muscle tone. He has fair skin that burns easily with numerous thin scars on his upper arms, back and legs from old beatings. There is one broader scar, from an overloaded tingler wand, on his right shoulder. Leigh has an oval face with large sapphire blue eyes. He has a small upturned button nose set over a cupid's bow mouth that is usually smiling, and a sharply pointed chin. Golden blonde ringlets frame these features, which gives Leigh the appearance of a little Victorian doll. Leigh usually wears his hair pulled back into a low ponytail with wispy bits going everywhere, including into his eyes. It reaches just past his shoulder blades when dry, when wet it reaches to the middle of Leigh's thighs. He sometimes braids his hair, but only when he has to do something while it is wet; as that is the only time he can braid it. Leigh has difficulty getting uniforms to fit him properly. Often he looks like a child given the clothing of an older sibling to grow into. His civilian clothing fits better, but still tends to look a size too large. When out of uniform he is often in worn blue jeans, battered sneakers, and commentary tee shirts. "Fear the Medic: he who put you together can also take you apart" and Latin phrases like "I have a catapult, give me all your money or I will throw large rocks at your head" are common. When he is skating, Leigh wears long compression tights and loose fitting poets' style shirts.

In spite of everything, Leigh is still a cheerful person. He smiles frequently, and has an infectious laugh. Leigh is happiest with people, especially the ones who got him off Omaha Station, and will help anyone who asks. Sometimes he will help even when they do not ask. Leigh, on the surface, looks innocent and adorable. He displays a genuinely sweet and patient nature most of the time. Persistent acts of idiocy, especially of the showing off variety will eventually provoke a display of temper. Most of the time Leigh will do everything he can to hide his feelings of fear, frustration and anger. Leigh has an inferiority complex that he hides fairly well, he feels he has not done anything to "earn" the attention and approval he has been getting since becoming a Black Lion and consequently is somewhat insecure. Most of the inferiority complex has its basis on him never having been good enough to please his father. When Leigh was brought into the Black Lions, he never had the reasons why he was acceptable explained to him in a way that made sense. Leigh believed that if he could heal, other people must also be able to. Leigh genuinely does not realize how valuable and how valued he is as a person. This makes him try to be useful even in his off duty time. This habit can sometime be a bit aggravating to people around him, but Leigh is hard to stay mad at. If he is utterly isolated or feels socially rejected, Leigh may become self-destructive. He can shut off his own pain reflexes, this gets him past the "ouch" stage for cutting himself. Fortunately, Leigh will only become self destructive if left alone when unhappy. His layered shields mean that the other empaths on base may *not* feel what is going on until it is a bit late to stop it. He does not want to die; he just does not cope with isolation, especially social isolation, very well. Having an animal around will negate some of this tendency, especially if they are injured, and animals seem to like him. Part of this may be explained by his habit of trying to heal injured animals when he finds them. He has not tried to make pets out of them, just healed them, and released them again, but some of them will come up to Leigh if they see him again.

Background Info/Origin
Leigh was the second child of trauma surgeon Leighanne Laveen and Nikioli Sebogvia. Leigh was conceived in Goldberg labs on L-1 to keep him from suffering from a genetic neurological disease that his older brother Alexie suffers from. Alexie was born seven years before Leigh. Nikioli was one of those people who should never have had children. While Leighanne was alive, she was able to mitigate the effects of her husbands distant, demanding and inconsistent parenting style. Unfortunately, Leighanne did not live to see Leigh brought home from the lab. She was killed in an accident on her way to discuss some anomalous test results with the director of the lab. With her death, the dubious test results were forgotten. It was never discovered that Leigh was given the remedial treatment for a disease that he did not have and that the anomalous test results were faked results. When Leigh came home after his first week of life, he was handed over to the nurse that managed Alexie's medications. Nurse Sherry Harper was not a warm person, but she was very consistent in bringing up both Alexie and Leigh. Good behavior brought rewards; pranks earned the two boys punishments that suited the crime. If the boys colored on the wall, they had to clean it up, for example. Where possible Nurse Harper kept Alexie and Leigh out of their father's sight, she had noted early on that Nikioli disapproved of his elder son's weakness and suspected that Leigh would not fare any better. Leigh was small from the time he had been brought home, and was slow to grow physically. In year 191 Nikioli moved the family to the L-4 cluster for a contract with Winner Inc. Leigh and Alexie found themselves isolated from their peer groups. The seclusion made an already close sibling relationship even closer. Neither of the two boys got the chance to settle into a normal school setting. Leigh was mentally advanced for his age and Alexie simply did not have the stamina for regular schooling. With Alexie's loving encouragement Leigh soon caught up to his brother, allowing the two boys to share their lessons. These lessons included the standard array of academics along with piloting, dance, and etiquette lessons. Leigh focused on the medical sciences, especially the biochemistry and genetics of Alexie's disease. He wanted very much to be able to do something to make his beloved brother well. His aptitude for medicine was attributed to his mother's side of the family. It was never mentioned where Leigh could hear it, as Nikioli's family had not approved of Leighanne. Leigh's mother, grandmother, and all of his maternal aunts and uncles were in the medical field in one way or another. Sadly, Leigh resembled Leighanne physically as well. This constant reminder of what Nikioli had lost, along with his families continuing disapproval of his wife, made him extremely distant to his younger son. When Leigh tried to do things for his father, Nikioli would react by either ignoring his son or by belittling his efforts. Nikioli also set impossibly high standards for a young boy to meet. If they were not met, Leigh would face harsh punishments. The most common punishment was to be isolated from his brother, his only source of open affection. Because of this, Leigh developed a terrible fear of social and physical isolation. Both Alexie and Leigh were expected to keep busy with either homework or household chores. Any display of what Nikioli felt was idle behavior was punished harshly with a beating, more duties and being fed subsistence level food. This was their father's reaction to what he saw as their weaknesses was an attempt to toughen up the boys. Nikioli wanted manly sons, not effeminate weaklings. In spite of their father's neglect and occasional abuse, the two boys did manage to steal a few happy moments in childhood. Alexie taught Leigh how to skate in the summer before his seventh birthday. As their father grudgingly approved of the activity, Leigh and Alexie spent a great deal of their excess energy learning how to execute figure skating tricks on their roller blades. This physical activity kept Leigh in good condition and helped him develop an excellent sense of balance. In the year, 195 riots on L-4 kept the boy's house bound. Nikioli refused to take part in the revolt against the Winner family and managed to keep out of the view of the mobs long enough for order to be restored. He did his best to keep his own household unaware of the turmoil going on outside the garden walls. Isolated, neither boy realized that their lives had been endangered. Late in the summer of 197 Nikioli reacted badly to Alexie questioning him about his mother, and denied him access to his medications. The immediate reaction was that Alexie had a violent psychotic episode and beat Leigh. Nikioli responded to this in a bizarre fashion, by praising Alexie and getting him on another medication. The beating demonstrated the masculine type of behavior he wanted in his sons. That Leigh was the victim did not appear to disturb him. He felt the beatings would make Leigh tougher. Unfortunately, the new medication was not as effective as the old one and Alexie started to go slowly insane and to lose the full use of his limbs. Two years later Omaha Station, Sebogvia Inc.'s prized mining installation, was declared habitable and Nikioli moved there to take up the top management position. Seven months later he brought Alexie and Leigh on Station as well. By this time Alexie and Leigh had fallen into a cycle where Alexie beat Leigh, recovered and apologized and was forgiven, only to repeat the beating later. Nikioli found he now had almost nothing in common with his younger son. Nikioli tried to push Leigh and seventeen year old Alexie into a mould of his choosing. He tried to make both boys shuttle pilots, so they could take up positions on the station and be useful. Alexie did well in the piloting program, but Leigh did not. After the turn of the year 199, Leigh found himself in the stations medical bay on an increasingly regular basis. Partially this was from the increasing violence of Alexie's beatings, and partially from Leigh's own inclination. Leigh wanted very badly to find some way of helping his brother. With tutelage from the Station's new physician, Leigh advanced his understanding of many medical subjects far beyond what was usual in an eleven year old boy. Dr. Lowell found that Leigh already had most of the academic understanding of a high school graduate. He also found that Leigh was very advanced in biochemistry, biology, neurology, and genetics, subjects that had an impact on his brother's illness. Armed with this interest Dr. Lowell nurtured hopes of training Leigh into a first rate medical student, and later seeing him become a top rank doctor. Dr. Lowell began a form of on the job medical training for Leigh. When Leigh was not using his first aide skills on himself he was learning how to manage the station's medical data base, the logistics of running an efficient emergency department and improving an his other medical skills. Leigh's small hands and deft touch made him perfect for replacing worn or damaged leads in cybernetic limb replacements. Practice gave him the understanding to know which leads were most susceptible to wear in the heavy use environment of a mining station. Leigh's innocent appearance made rough and tumble miners mind their manners and temper their speech. His warmth and care invited their confidences. Having no choice but to listen to drunken miners pouring out their souls to him while being patched up made Leigh develop remarkable patience. Leigh learned to be tolerant of many ways of life by working with miners from across known space. However, Leigh never managed to learn to be tolerant of idiots. Young men showing off to impress the girls and getting hurt in the process was a particular irritation to him. Accidents he could cope with, deliberate stupidity annoyed him beyond measure. The miners he met taught him several skills. The most immediately useful for Leigh was a form of sign language commonly used around the station. Mostly it was used in areas, where the noise levels was too high for normal speech. They attempted to teach Leigh how to read lips as well, but had only limited success. Leigh could only read lips if the speaker was speaking slowly and clearly, habits not common on the Station. After the Station had been in business for two years a Child Protective Services caseworker arrived on station to take care of the needs of any abused or neglected children in the population of the station. Theodore Hunt noticed that Nikioli was not giving any time to his twelve-year-old son. He also felt that the boy was acting far more adult than was normal. He noticed that Leigh bruised with appalling ease and appeared to be undersized for his age. Hunt did not see Alexie beating his younger brother, or hear about Nikioli locking Leigh in his room for a week with nothing but space rations and water for sustenance. He filed a preliminary report on the suspected neglect of a child but had no opportunity to do anything more for Leigh. Nikioli heard about the report and Theodore Hunt was killed in an unfortunate airlock accident. No charges were filed and the incident was ruled a freak accident. Ten weeks later a replacement arrived. Sharon Leland was supposed to have been Hunt's assistant and was very surprised to find that she was now the head of Child Protective on Omaha Station. Nikioli made sure Leland understood that he was the source of all of her local physical backup and if she was willing to take his orders everything would work out just fine between them. Sharon Leland was a perfect candidate for Nikioli's attentions. She had gotten into social work because her family expected it, not because she felt any desire to help protect abused and neglected children. Leland reported that the suspected neglect was nothing of the sort, and made sure that any further attempts to report any child abuse on station were edited, misdirected or flat out lost. This allowed Leigh's abuse to continue. In October of the year 201, Leigh took his first hands-on space-piloting test. Everything went well until a smaller craft crossed Leigh flight vector without authorization. Leigh took appropriate evasive actions, but the abrupt five-G turn made Leigh loose consciousness, and crash into several small communications satellites. Without a pressure suit his fellow students could take 7 G's without blacking out. Leigh had known he had low blood pressure. It made it impossible for him to do the faster jumps while skating, now he discovered a more practical concern, a pilot who is out cold cannot fly very effectively. When he blacked out at the helm Leigh wrecked the small shuttle he had been piloting, proving that he did not have what it took to be a pilot in a spectacular and expensive fashion. Nikioli was infuriated when Leigh wrecked the shuttle. In his fit of rage he ordered that Leigh be left in the damaged craft until it was brought in for salvage. Leigh was left pinned face down to the front view screen of the damaged shuttle, where he had been caught when the shuttle had crashed. From his vantage point all he could see was the station slowly rotating away from him, giving the illusion that he was going to fall at any moment. He was left with this disturbing view for several hours before Alexie came out to bring the damaged craft into a salvage slot. A pinhole leak caused Leigh to suffer mild oxygen deprivation and reinforced the feeling that he was going to fall in spite of there being no gravity. This experience left Leigh with an abiding, almost paralyzing fear of heights. Alexie and a partner went in to find Leigh against Nikioli's order that he be left there until salvage began. Alexie found Leigh was suffering from hypothermia. He and his co-pilot brought Leigh back onto the station and into Alexie's room, and took care to not be seen doing so. Once safely there Alexie went off to get more blankets, thinking Leigh would be safe with his co-pilot Boris. Boris had been watching Leigh for months with the notion bedding the much smaller boy. With Alexie gone, he succumbed to the temptation of a helpless victim and brutally raped Leigh. Leigh's body was already stressed by cold and the lack of oxygen, being stressed again was more than he could survive without something changing drastically. The rape caused Leigh's latent healing gift to manifest explosively. Boris was thrown across the room by violent muscle contractions caused by Leigh's gift gone mad. When Alexie returned he found his partner sprawled unconscious on the floor, bleeding profusely from his mouth and nose. Leigh was huddled in a hysterical shivering heap as far from his assailant as he could get without leaving the room. Left with no other choice Alexie called for medical backup. Boris was left severely brain damaged by the explosion of Leigh's gift, but very little else in the room was disturbed. Only the very lightest of objects were disarranged. Unfortunately, Boris's actions made the other boy lovers on station aware of Leigh. Many had seen him but paid him no mind, now he was a target any time he was outside of medical and away from the few miners who were willing and able to act as protectors. Alexie tried to protect Leigh in his lucid moments, but could not always be there when Leigh needed him. To protect Leigh at night he took to sleeping in the same bed as Leigh when he was on station. The biggest drawback to this was the appearance of incest. Physical abuse became rarer, but when it occurred it was much more violent and sexual abuse became almost commonplace. Dr. Lowell noticed the change in abuse patterns and tried to report them, but was kept from getting anything effective done by the caseworker on Station. He then started getting Leigh certified as a medic, in the hopes that one of his colleagues would then be willing to take the boy away from his family. Leigh was certified as a Medic I, the equivalent of an Emergency Medical Technician, at the tender age of thirteen. Even with proof of high potential, none of the doctors that Dr. Lowell was able to contact who had the connections to rescue Leigh was willing to do so. Leigh's paternal grandfather was generous in handing out funds for medical research. None of the doctors was willing to risk the old man's ire by essentially stealing his grandson away from his family. It took Dr. Lowell more than a year before one of his old classmates was able to put him in touch with a former student who might be able to help. The doctor he was referred to was Dr. Sally Po. Dr. Po got Dr. Lowell's message through an old friend and teacher at her old medical school. She did him the courtesy of reading Dr. Lowell's plea and looking over the attached medical file. What she read appalled her. When her attempt to help Leigh by going through C.P.S. was circumvented by the caseworker on Omaha Station she gathered her arguments and approached Duo Maxwell. Commander Maxwell found her notion that a medic who had the ability to heal by touch would be useful interesting. However, the area around Omaha Station was being monitored due to the loss of several small mining ships. There was no way to retrieve Leigh without disrupting vital operations already in progress. A compromise would have to be worked out, until either there were operatives free to go and retrieve Leigh. A few weeks later Dr. Lowell received an unexpected package from Dr. Po. With it was a short note saying that the enclosed laptop was to be given to Leigh. The lap top case was old and more than a bit battered. This beaten exterior hid clever programming and a set of encryption codes that would allow Leigh to communicate by e-mail and a form of instant message. Messaging sessions would be short and infrequent out of necessity. The relaying satellites would only be in the proper alignment for time periods of less than seventy minutes every nine Earth days. With Omaha Station's standard day only being twenty two hours long this time spacing was often awkward, with messaging times late at night or in the early mornings of the Station's day. Message times in the middle of the Station's day passed unused, as Leigh was afraid to attract any attention from his father and brother. Alexie found the computer, filled with all sorts of medical reference materials, to be far to old and slow to be worth taking away. Even with the relatively slow processing speed, the computer provided a much-needed escape for Leigh. Most often Leigh, or Muppet as he called himself, would talk to a young man named Apollo. Leigh believed that Apollo and his other contacts, Wrath and Silence, were the children of Preventer officers on the Mars base. He never asked after his first set of messages to Apollo, as Apollo had refused to answer. Over the next few months, Leigh learned to treasure Apollo's humor and insight. Without realizing he was doing so, Leigh began to fall for his online friend. This trust would prove invaluable when Leigh discovered that his father was working with a group of privateers. The privateers had convinced Leigh's father to help them acquire raw materials by providing them with the cargo manifests and planned routes of ore carriers. With his help more than enough high-grade iron, titanium and gundanium constituent ores were diverted to make a stockpile of weapons, or worse, heavily armored mobile suits. The privateers made sure that there were no witnesses left after they took a ship and its cargo. Frightened half to death and desperate to stop the needless loss of life, Leigh shipped all the information he had found off to his friend Apollo. He hoped that Apollo would take the information, give it to his father, and thus stop the hijackings. Leigh had no idea that his friend was any kind of law enforcement official, that Apollo was Ensign Khaiya Sevayin of the Black Lions. Khaiya received a copy of the data and rushed it to Commander Maxwell's office. Once there Khaiya found that the Black Lion Intelligence corps, who had helped set up the encryption codes for Leigh's laptop, had already decoded the data, and sent it to the Commander with an "Urgent" flag attached. That Leigh had taken the risk to send the data to an unknown person at all told Commander Maxwell that this boy had the courage to be a Black Lion. All he had to do was retrieve the boy and make sure he wanted to take part in the job of keeping the peace. If it was found that Leigh could not fit into base life a back up plan was set up. This plan included a limited memory block and sending Leigh on to Quatre for observation and reintegration into normal society as a medical student. Commander Maxwell sent a small team to do a thorough data raid and an assessment of Leigh. Other than the fact that the stations computer system was scattered around Omaha Station in several pieces, the raid went off without problems. Leigh had not expected anyone to come looking for him and after he was tentatively approached he was overjoyed to be given a chance to be free of his father. That he was essentially taking a leap into the dark, with no knowledge of who was on the other side to catch him, did not deter him for more than a moment. Once Leigh was safely on base, he began doing everything he could to pay back what he saw as an enormous debt. He was determined to be useful to the Lions, no matter what the personal cost was. Likes-- Leigh has a strong affection for the people who got him off of Omaha Station and has started developing strong ties with the other talented ensigns on base. Leigh also likes chocolate, raspberries, and strawberries, especially in combination. He loves roller-skating, cuddling, and dancing. Being useful also ranks high on Leigh's list of likes. Leigh has a minor case of hero worship that applies to Dr. Po. He has a major case of hero worship and a near fear based awe of all three of the commanders. Dislikes-Leigh has a deep seated terror of the idea of loosing his new family [the Lions] and being sent back to his father's side of the family. Initially Leigh has no knowledge of his mother's side of the family. He dislikes being alone, having low blood pressure, being or feeling useless and short jokes. Leigh is afraid of heights, but copes by not getting into situations where he has to look down from a great height, and has a moderate fear of being tied up because of the sexual abuse he was subjected to on Omaha Station. He also has an intense dislike for any sort of reminder about how cute his appearance is. Specific Enemies/Friends-- The only enemies Leigh knows he has are his father and possibly his brother. He is unaware that his grandfather is searching for him. Leigh is also unaware of what his grandfather's intentions are if he ever finds Leigh. Leigh considers Tatakai, Michael, Seimei, Winter, Khamryn, Aisuru, and Jordana as his friends. He would like to be more than just friends with Khaiya but is deathly afraid of losing his friendship by pressing the issue.
